books again ;-)

During my visit to Japan i had finished reading of "Boost Graph Library" book. This is very interesting library to implement different tasks, related to graphs. Must read for all, who are programm in C++

people's i'm working with

Most important requirements for people, that i make - they must think quickly and have knowledge in different areas. From my point of view, wide knowledge area helps in very different things - i'm often construct parts of solutions from branches, that are not directly connected with given topics.
And i don't like peoples, who doesn't try to use their brain, and ask me about simple things, that they can find in docs or in google. Ask of some things divert me from other things, and i need to recall my thoughts :-((

c++ and cryptolibs

In stage of selecting c++ library for cryptography - i need AES & MD5 implementations ;-)
Currently i had reviewed Crypto++ and Botan. Both libraries looks good, with wide coverage of cryptoalgorithms, so i need to write several tests to select one to use. Both library has license, that allow their use in commercial applications.

c++ & boost again

Continue to inspect Boost libraries. Had found 2 interesting modules - Boost.Interprocess, that already included in Boost CVS, and Boost.Process, that is developed as part of current Google Summer of Code.
First library provide very useful, cross-platform routines to access to shared memory, locks, mutexes, and other things for interprocess communication
Second library provide cross-platform management of child processes, and communications between them
I hope, that in near future, boost will provide enougth things to make cross-platform programming like a classes, that are provided by Java. Boost.Asio & Boost.Threads already made first steps in this direction

books

At start of this week i had finished reading of "Getting Things Done" book. Book is good, but is too long - i think, that it would more compact, without lost of meaning. Some of ideas are useful, while other are well known (at least for me). I can recommend to read this book, but with some part of scepticism in mind ;-)

ext2fs under Windows

Long time ago i had used Ext2fs explorer to access to files on my linux partitions. But after reinstalling Windows, i try to find another solution. And i found it - Ext2 IFS for Windows - Windows filesystem driver for Ext2fs, that allow read and write data to ext2fs, working as usually via Explorer or Far

SICP in Russian!

Yesterday i got a hard copy of russian translation of Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programms (SICP). This translation has a long story - first time i heard about it is was about 4 years ago. Near that time i helped to improve this book, reading it, fix errors and made some help in latex sources preparing. So, my name is listed in acknowledgement section ;-)
But in Russia this book has hard fortune - current quantity is small - about 200 books, many books distributors don't want to distribute this book, as Lisp is too strange for them - they always work with well known names - C++/Java/XML/.Net and other bullshit.
We want to distribute this book in our Universities, to help to improve the quality of our IT specialists
