And, as usual - don't forget a bottle of whiskey with cola ;-)

historical books

I last week i had readed historical books. It was very interesting reading for me.
First, i had read book about Six-days war between Israel and Arabic countries. Israel had crush Egipet's army in 3 days, by crushing all air forces in first three hours.
Another book, that i currently reading, is about german pilot, that fly on dive-bomber and make more than 2000 flyings during World War II. It was man with firm conviction about their own objectives. I had readed many books about russian pilots, but nobody had flight more than 1000 flyings.

strange corporative things

At start of next week, our marketing & management staff will do mini-conference, dedicated to expanding of our security products. But without me (i'm head of security products development department). I'll work - write docs, fix bugs on other product, for which deadline is at end of July.
I can't imagine, was they will discuss without my vision of future products development directions.

today got back my foreign pass with Japan visa. So, i'll in Tokio at the first week of August.

continue to investigate boost

During continuous investigation of boost facilities i had found very interesting library - Boost.Statechart. This library allow to describe finite state machines and model transition between state and so on. If you have an UML state model, you can directly transform it into the code - this is very handy!
Now i try to found task, to play with Boost.Statechart ;-)

working

after friday's silence, start of week was very crazy. Calls from customers & salesmans. Reading docs for different systems, release planning for our mail-filtering product MailBoss. I wanna to work in silence - it's more productive for me! ;-)
Today i had wrote technical offer for one of the customers, to implement mail archiving system. Mail archiving systems had big progress since my last look to them. Veritas Enterprise Vault now can integrate with Lotus Notes, not only with MS Exchange. EMC also has software to make archives of mail messages.
One interesting product, that i found - HP RISS - hardware + software complex, that allow storing and indexing of different data. It support data cleanup & duplicates removal - this is very interesting feauture. It could integrate with Lotus Notes & MS Exchange, and have SDK to develop custome store procedures.
Currently i thinking about possibilities of integration of our products with these solutions, but i think, that it take too more time & ressources, that we have :-(

working day

Today is very good day for work. most of peoples in our company now at the team building, and in office less than 100 peoples. I sitting in silence - no calls from sales team & customers, no questions from colleague - very good, i like this silence ;-)
I'm programm, writing docs, and plan to do many other things, that i cannot do usually.
I wanna to have this daily routine at least for the next work month - i need to finish new version of filtering engine, and make plans for the new version of our web-filtering product
But in monday, all begin again - unplanned calls from customers & sales, questions and meetings

continue to play with boost asio

Continue to play with boost asio, and it looks very well. Yesterday i had wrote multithreaded synchronous proxy server, that scale very well - i got 250 req/sec, with 500 simultaneous connections, and i think that i could make more, if i use another configuration of apache server that i tested.
Today i try to rewrite my proxy to use async io within multithreaded environment.

new sun's servers

today i had spoken with my friends - sun's salesman, about new sun's servers. On the start of next week Sun will announced several AMD-based servers. There are very interesting models - 8-way server with dual core CPU's; 4-way blade servers (10 blades in one 19' rack), also with dual core CPUs; and very interesting model - 2-way server with dual core CPUs and 48 places for 250- or 500 Gbs HDDs (maximum 24Tb) - this server is our main problem - we need to make proper positioning for this model. It could act as NAS, providing NFS & CIFS support, providing RAID support througth ZFS.
I'm waiting for official announce of these models, and we'll offer them to our customers

playing with NexentaOS

I had played with NexentaOS (GNU/Solaris) LiveCD. It looks very interesting, but working too slow (for me) on my old 1.7GHz Celeron with 512Mb RAM.
May be install NexentaOS instead Linux on my home computer? ;-)
