I'm back from business trip, from Ekaterinburg. We had negotiations with one of big customers about enterprise integration technologies and it application in their current infrastructure. This was very interesting for them, but they need to wait some time to get information about future directions of information system evolution.

enterprise integration again

Just installed SeeBeyond on my notebook and playing with it. Looks interesting, but my notebook is too weak to run it :-( Heh, i'll need to switch to another notebook, perhaps IBM's.
We have another copy of SeeBeyond on our server and it run fine - we can model data flows and process it.

after installing iriver plus software, windows media player forgets about files syncronisation :-( This is very bad for listening podcasts, so i thinking about debuging the sync process

iRiver H10 & Windows Media Player

After reinstalling Windows, my H10 was found by WMP. But exists few strange things in syncronisation. First, WMP put files in wrong directory (in Music, not in Media\Music). And second, it does not perform rebuilding of music database, so i not see updates in music lists.
But automatic updates of some files, is enought, i can update databases manually

ugly errors in software

I had found today one ugly error in PalmOne Desktop software - they always tried to use disk C:, not system disk. After reinstalling windows my root disk was named as G:, not C:. For me this is not a problem, but Palm Desktop does not installing, saying about errors.
This was until i had not fixed one .ini file, and search and replace c:\ to g:\ in .msi file ;-)
Why programmers in this well-known company made this stupid error? All windows have information where windows is located, and where is "Programm Files" directory, but creators of installer does not tried to use this information :-(

today's notes

Yesterday i had tried to decrease my partition, and i think, that all will good, as in last cases. But today i had not found my home directory with all settings, files, etc. :-( After backuping some of files in other locations, and tryings to restore normal works - most of applications does not started -- i started to re-installing windows and all applications.
And i found, again, that Web 2.0 applications is very usefull - i restored my address book, todo's and notes from plaxo, my RSS subscriptions from the Attensa Online, and some other things from another services. All moneys notes are in my palm, but ultrasoft money does not restore it properly, as i have several currencies, so i'll need to create new file with finace transactions.
And, there is no bad things without good ones -- my Windows now works very quickly - without old, often unused services ;-)
I need only to restore grub to load linux, as it was destroyed during windows installation

return to linux

Today i had started return to Linux ;-)
I had downloades OpenSuSE 10.1, decrease windows partition, and tomorrow i start installation of this distro. I liked SuSE, as it pretty stable, has latest versions of software and very usable for laptop users.
And i hope, in near future, i continue return to Unix, and install Solaris, as desktop system. I think, that it will work normaly, and support my WiFi ethernet chip (i know, that Solaris (express?) supports Intel Wireless chips)

After more than two months of absence Google restores work of Google Alerts service. I heavely use it to monitor different topics in news and web space.
That's very good news for me!

business process & data integration

Yestarday i had spoken with our Magazine editor, so until end of July i must write article about business process & data integration. So now i readed many docs about these techologies in depth. But i'm still seeking for solution to use - IBM's, Sun's or BEA. Or may be this will Tibco ;-)
P.S. Until end of year i also need to write article about new trends in content-filtering technologies

solaris 10 zones

I had found very interesting reading about Solaris Zones Architecture. Thinking about packing into Solaris Zones our content-filtering software, as we can increase security, and make resource allocation more precise

strange things

In dansguardian mailing list one people ask about modifying DG for task of filtering incoming requests for the site (different checks for different tasks). DG's policy implementation could not solve this task, and to do this peoples will need to rewrite almost all of filtering parts of DG.
I send e-mail about using of specific ICAP module, based on free c-icap server, and squid+icap working in reverse proxy mode. But people says, that customers want to pay money to implement this in DG!
I wonder, why peoples don't want to use better solution, than using DG?

network security again

today i almost implemented ICAP client for using with antiviruses in our web-filtering product. I plan to continue investigation in these branch and implement our web-filtering as ICAP server. One very interesting thing is OPES, that is intended to be used as ICAP replacement.
But i still looking for a good network library for C++

voice communications in the internet world
