solaris & zfs

interesting link about using zfs in apple's mac os x. it would be great to expand zfs to os'es other than solaris
I hate russian landladies and landlords -- they take dollars until they don't loss money on the cross course and increase payment when cross course is changing. And money, that they take is black - without any goverment taxes - this usual practice in russia
I want to have more precise and long contract on the house rent.

news from sun :-(

News states that Scott McNealy leaves the Sun Microsystems. This is not so good news, as Scott made a new era at computing, especially at networking computing. I hope, that it continue to cooperate with Sun's heads and will extend range of Sun's products...

improving development process

After reading the SWEBOK, i start thinking about Software Engineering Process measurement and improvement. Currently we make asessment of the developer team, and i want to make some changes in the development process after ending the asessment to make development process more predictable

vacation is ended

Vacation was only one week. I had many things done during these vacations, but i had time to read some books. I had reread Gang of Four, to refresh my knowledge about design patterns.
And i also readed the SWEBOK. This is very useful reading for all, who are working in the branch of software engeneering/development. So my list of future reading was expanded by titles from this document. But where to take free time? I want to have vacation during few months to read all planned books ;-)

April 6, 2006

last day before vacation. had finished many things - discuss data integration project, finished one part of documenation for a big project. Right now, i just wrote a mail to my developers, about things, that we need finish at the end of next week.
Want to sleep, don't believe, that i'll have one week of normal life ;-) I'll believe in it, when i sit in the airbus 310 and drink a cognac. And will read SWEBOK and rfc for OPES ;-)
Please wait for my next posts, that i continue at 16th or 17th april

evening working

in metro, going to home, had readed several whitepapers about process integration. from 8 to 9 p.m. answered to work mail about current project and write docs. from 9 to 11 p.m. edited document for certification of the web filtering product (200 pages).
I think, that i need to ask about salary increase, as i currently working on 4 big projects simultaneously

enterprise integration

Continue to read books & articles about data & process integration topic. Currently it very interesting for me, like others new topics ;-) I hope, that existing products will allow us integrate legacy applications with new applications. We think about introduce a new platform for a applications development at big goverment organisation.
Last night i had read long document from customer with list of all applications, that they use in one of the departments. Several hundreds of applications, written with use dBase, FoxPro (old DOS & Visual), Clipper (even applications, written in 2005 year), dbVista (i haven't seen it more than 10 years!), and Informix databases. And almost all of them we need to integrate, to make hardware and software usage more uniform, at least at the data storage/database level, with keeping client part of software.
Continue to select between integration platforms. Sun's (SeeBeyond's) Integration Suite is very attractive as it has many different adapters to work with different databases and other sources of data. IBM's solution also looks attractive. All others (as i know) does not provide enougth number of supported databases, but i need to look more deeply

April 4, 2006

sitting and continue working on data integration project. exists warning, that i can't finish it before vacation, as i doesn't got documentation from SeeBeyond. Thinking about switching to the IBM WebSphere, Tibco or BEA AquaLogic
Continue to expand my LinkedIn network, especially in branch of Computer Security (Content Filtering and Antiviruses branches)

currentl works

4 days before vacation. continue to working on three different projects. Programm in C++, discuss the new projects for payment processing software, and discuss latest information about data integration project.
Waiting for information from customer, and documentation from Sun (about SeeBeyound, that we'll plan to use in this integration project). And i must to write technical offer for the customer before i go to vacation.
So, i think, that last three days will very interesting and hard.
And now, i sit home, drink red wine, and read magazines about politics

books

Just had finished reading of the "Seven habits of highly effective peoples" by Stephen Covey. Good book, that properly coincide with my minds about given topics. Stephen write about simple, but effective things - principles of human relations, how to make balance between life and works, how to improve peoples life.
I think, that i need to reread this book some time later, to improve my understanding of these things, and understand what will change in my life
